A Brief Wild Family History

The Wild side of our family can be traced back to Crompton, Shaw, with the earliest Wilds (circa) 1770 being found living at Gravel Hole which is in the area of Thornham/ Higher Crompton.
Edward Wild and son Joseph were from the Gravel Hole area.

Joseph’s son Jesse was born at Acre Barn, Higher Crompton as was Jesse’s son Daniel.

Jesse was the licensee of the Shoulder of Mutton 23 High Street in Royton from 1890 until his death
in 1898, his wife Dinah (Cheetham) continued at the Shoulder of Mutton for a few years until 1902, Daniel was working as Barman at the pub when he married Selina in 1899.

Daniel married Selina Roberts, from 32 Turf Lane, Royton, who with their family of 10 - after living in Chadderton & Middleton - eventually settled at number 50, Wood Street, Middleton Junction,
with several of their children dying there, as did
Daniel in 1927 and Selina in 1949.

The maternal surnames of the family were Wallwork, Cheetham, Warburton  & Roberts.
